Old Austro-Hungarian Waltz – Carl Piglich

Old Austro-Hungarian Waltz – Carl Piglich

Carl Piglich is still revered as a legendary player in the Kingaroy area (South Burnett district).  Carl emigrated to Australia as a young man pre WWI and felled scrub around southern Queensland.  All he brought with him from his homeland (the Austro-Hungarian Empire) was his beloved button accordion.  Another part of his ‘cultural baggage’ was the amazing tunes he brought.  many aspiring German pioneers, and their descendant, learnt his tunes.

Carl lived to be 104 and resided at Southport until his passing in the late 198os.  This beautiful old waltz was learnt in his homeland and then brought to the Burnett to become part of our diverse accordion tradition.
